NEXSTAR BROADCASTING EXTENDS REACH OF ITS LOCAL NEWS AND GROWING COMMUNITY PORTAL WEBSITES WITH MOBILE MEDIA FUNCTIONALITY
- LSN Mobile Supports Delivery of Nexstar's Market Leading News, Weather, Sports Scores and Video Content to Mobile Users via Web, Video, Apps and SMS/texting -
Irving, TX - February 9, 2010 - Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST) today announced an agreement which brings its market-leading news, video and content from its 33 local community web portals to mobile users through LSN Mobile's Local Wireless® media-to-mobile platform. Nexstar's differentiated community web portal strategy, launched in 2007, complements the reach of its local television stations by leveraging the brand, content and local relationships into a successful, growing independent business.
Nexstar's mobile functionality puts local content on every web-enabled mobile handset and delivers video clips to video-enabled mobile phones, either within a news story or through a video menu. Nexstar will also be offering local wireless apps for the iPhone, Blackberry, Droid and other smartphones as well as SMS/Text messaging delivering geo-targeted mobile alerts for breaking news, weather, sports scores and more.
Marc Montoya, Senior Vice President, eMEDIA of Nexstar Broadcasting with responsibility for the Company's digital media platforms, commented, "Nexstar's community portals offer additional content and interactive options for consumers and advertisers and build communities in each of the markets they serve. By launching mobile functionality and applications, Nexstar will bring mobile users on-demand access to highly rated local news, sports, entertainment, video, weather, features, on-demand video, geo-targeted weather updates, breaking news and tweets, whenever, wherever and in whatever media format they desire. In doing so, we'll create a compelling platform for advertisers to reach targeted mobile phone users on the go.
"Since 2007 we've extended Nexstar's record for pioneering industry innovation through our differentiated e-MEDIA strategies which are driving double digit new media revenue growth. Our new mobile offerings align Nexstar with the tremendous growth of smart phone users which will allow us to further increase brand loyalty and grow additional revenue streams, including national and local advertising."
Since its launch in 2007, Nexstar has recorded twelve consecutive quarters of revenue growth from its e-MEDIA community web portal strategy, and in the first nine months of 2009 Nexstar's e-MEDIA revenue rose by approximately 13% over the comparable 2008 period.
Gordon Borrell of Borrell Associates, a research and consulting firm that tracks local advertising and develops interactive advertising and marketing strategies, recently commented on the success and growth of Nexstar's differentiated community web portal approach, "We continue to be impressed by the quick work Nexstar has made of developing an online presence in its markets. I'm especially impressed by Nexstar's ability to use the Internet to grow new business, not just preserve its existing broadcast advertising base. We monitor the progress of more than 4,400 local media properties, and Nexstar has remained on our short list of companies 'worth watching' for the past three years. Last year's 15% growth in online revenues put them in the Top 10 fastest-growing local online advertising companies. Nearly all of their broadcast TV peers experienced negative growth in 2009. Overall, 61% of the local media companies on our list saw negative growth."
"Nexstar Broadcasting is an industry leader and their selection of LSN Mobile is a great endorsement of our capabilities for launching mobile applications," said Lee Durham, founder and CEO of LSN Mobile. "LSN Mobile is experiencing first hand the growth of mobile, and in 2009 we had more than 1.2 billion page views, or about 61 percent more than 2008. Our affiliates are reporting similar growth. We are confident that Nexstar will greatly benefit as they launch their latest platform for advertisers to reach targeted audiences."
